Sarah G. Banks Middle School options room paraeducator, Beatrice Birdsong, received a Golden Apple Award at the September 10, 2026 Board of Education meeting.

Birdsong was nominated by Sarah G. Banks Middle School EI teacher, Bob Bialecki, because her students trust her, respect her and feel safe around her. Many students make a point to stop by and say good morning to Birdsong every day, which speaks volumes about the positive relationships she builds with students. She has become known as the “fun teacher” that students look forward to seeing each morning.

“Beatrice has been assigned to support a student throughout his classes, and this student has been successful thanks to Beatrice’s dedication, encouragement and steady guidance,” said Bialecki. “She is helping him move in the right direction with her continued support, and I am confident he will reach his full potential.”

Birdsong also demonstrates outstanding decision-making skills.

“In challenging situations, she remains calm, thoughtful and focused on what is best for the student,” said Bialecki. “Her professional judgment is one of her greatest strengths.”

“Beyond her professional skills, Beatrice is a stellar person both professionally and personally,” added Bialecki. “Our program, our students and our school community are better because of her.”
